Marco Pierre White Kings Road Steakhouse & Grill

One of the nicest things about being this vocal about your love for food is that when your birthday comes around you’re bound to get some yummy presents. This year I felt like Charlie with his golden ticket to visit Wonka Wonderland. Family and friends made sure I saw the heavenly treats in every size, shape and form from truffles and hot chocolates to Christophe Felders Patisserie Encyclopedia and even an actual Chocolate Fountain! Not to forget the beautiful Magnolia apron which I don’t think I’m ever going to have the heart to wear, simply because I fear I might drop something on it !

Balancing out all of the sweetness was this perfect 3 course at Marco Pierre White from the Jay Man.

Disguised behind the neon signage is a warm sophisticated interior. The tables are quite close together and although this can sometimes be a bit too cosy, in this instance we got on quite well with our neighbors and ended up leaving with some interesting stories. The staff were surprisingly friendly and in an absolute first I was actually asked how my day was 🙂

On to the food then. We started with the Kipper Pâté with Whisky on Melba Toast and the special which was a Poached egg on a bed of Asparagus. Not normally a fan of asparagus I have to mention that I now look forward to ordering more of it.

This was followed by the Fish Cake and Fillet Steak with Onion Rings. A word of advice to anyone who goes to a Marco Pierre White, do not forget to order the Onion Rings! Perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, these were as good as they get. The Salmon Fish Cake was nicely complemented by the mustard sauce and as expected the Steak was perfect.

And finally time for dessert. Not that we could actually eat anymore but it just seemed wrong not to. After a good deliberation with the newly befriended next table we went with the Pecan Pie and the Chocolate Truffle with a Baileys cream which was the special for the day. Rich as the Truffle was, the Baileys cream did wonders to bring a lightness to the entire dessert. I would definitely be happy with some more of that !

And three hours later we were done. Thank you Jay, our expanded sizes stand testimony to how much we enjoyed this 🙂
